On 4 September, the First Space Half Marathon took place in Zhytomyr сity.
Participants were encouraged to overcome distance of 21 kilometres not only by love to running, but also by cash prizes from the sponsors. «The prize fund of UAH 42 thousand is distributed among the participants in races of 21 km and 5 km», Iryna Kovalchuk, the Head of the Department at Zhytomyr City Council said.
The distance of 21.1 km long was overcome by 144 participants, among them was the Mayor of Zhytomyr Serhiy Sukhomlyn. In addition, hundreds of participants took part in the 5-kilometre race. Among them were Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko, Deputy Boryslav Rosenblatt, Deputies of the City Council. The winner of the Space Marathon became Yurii Rusiuk, citizen of Lutsk city, who hit the distance of 21.1 km in 1.10 minutes.
Free Energy as a sponsor of the competition earned honorific mention: «For sponsorship and partnership in organizing sports events» by the Mayor′s Office in Zhytomyr city.
We hope that this marathon will become a traditional race in Zhytomyr and we support the words of winner Yurii Rusiuk: «It is nice that such races occur in our country. Now not only Europe is running, mass races have also become a popular phenomenon in Ukraine».
